Front End Web Designer (Toronto)

AltiusCMS is looking for an individual with the ability to hand code HTML/XHTML and CSS to W3C standards. You will have at least 2 years commercial experience in this field. Working knowledge of taking templates into CMS systems is a big advantage. A good standard of spoken and written English is required for this role.
The AltiusCMS Content Management System uses a component based archtechture for all visual elements. You will design generic layouts for these components as well as themed customizations for individual client sites. The CSS/HTML layouts need to be extensible to ensure that new client projects are deployed quickly.
Key Responsibilities
Converting Photoshop comps to HTML page templates using CSS layouts.
Updating existing components to match new client colour schemes.
Design and styling of new visual web components.
Complete testing of all HTML and CSS layouts produced.
Assisting in the design integration with the template based CMS engine.
Required Skills / Experience
At least 2 years experience in a similar role (with URL’s to back this up)
Ability to hand-code valid, semantic, accessible HTML with cross-browser compatible CSS layouts
You must have a firm handle on W3C standards, accessibility concerns, as well as browser specific bugs
Able to convert a Photoshop comp to CSS-based HTML layout
Familiar with web standards and standards-based techniques, but know when to break the rules
Strong Typography skills
This role could expand to become full-time and include the following skills:
Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator
Flash Design
Coding languages including JavaScript, PHP
ExtJS Javascript library
Details:
Location: You may work from your location, but you need to be available for occasional meetings at our King/Spadina office.
Hours: 10-20 hours a week initially
